Hello,

I just went over 106,000 miles on my '08 TDI and until now, I have only had to repair the suspension and the warranty covered that. Tonight, when I hit 75 MPH a hard rattling sound, like metal coming loose and banging around, started coming from what I thought was the gear box.

Have any of you experienced this?

Anyone have any suggestions?

$600 and ~2hrs if you do it yourself with a rebuild shaft. Dealer will charge $1200 to $1500
Most of the people in forum buy a rebuild drive shaft from Colorado Driveshaft company

200$ if you buy the bearing on ebay and find a good independent shop to fix it..
But first check if it is the bearing, here is a video of the damaged one:

You shouldn't be driving the car as can damage the transmission.

^ Agree with nooby. Get it towed if having a shop do it, or DIY in the garage if you're handy and set up for it.
