Alright, so this isn't an emergency... yet.
As we all know to replace a headlight bulb is a pretty simple fix. Insert the tool included in the trunk, give it a twist, press down on the spring, and slide the headlight assembly out. Even someone as mechanically disinclined as myself was able to figure it out in short order. Alas, this is where my (future) dilemma comes into play, when I discovered the problem during a bulb replacement the other day.
On the driver's side, the insertion point for the tool has been torn away. I mean gone. There's nothing left to even manually force the release gears to turn. It's like the previous owner went full cavemen on the thing in a fit of rage. So my question is: how screwed am I in the case that a driver's side headlight goes out? Will a simple fix suddenly be a multi-hundred dollar repair job at the stealership, what with them now having to replace an entire assembly and (I imagine) disassemble my front end?
I love my Touareg and plan on keeping it at least another few years (did the timing belt, thermostat, serpentine... all that good stuff). I'm weighing whether or not I should sell for either an Isuzu Vehicross (I like them. Don't judge.) or one of a comparable make. It's a 2004 V8 with 133K miles, mechanically sound and runs great. No warning lights.
Any advice is appreciated.
