I bought a new Tiptronic board (7L6-713-243-D) from ebay to try to remedy my lack of Tiptronic, lighted gear selections, and the current gear selection indicator in the MFD. The letter would appear in the MFD briefly and go out a second or 3 later. It would only show when you changed gears or went into Park and then go out. I wasn't sure if it was all related to the circuit board, but now I know it was.
I used the instructions from this thread to get the shifter handle off. From there, I removed the chromed plastic bezel and after that, the PRNDS panel. The Tip board is right under that, as shown in the referenced thread. Sorry, no pics of the swap. Didn't think of pics until I had it back together and it tested good. Looking back, since the Tip board is split, you can probably do the swap without removing the handle. Made for more room, and it is very easy to remove and re-install.
(Not sure whether this should be in the DIY section or this one. Seems this one is busier. I guess it wouldn't hurt to post it in both.)
PRNDS is now lit when the lights are on.
Current gear selection now stays in the MFD the entire time.
And finally - Tip!!
