This is not true at all. Here in Canada’s desert the snow is very dry and powdery. Usually a light wind will clear the roads. Elevation around 250-300 metres.

Depending on your parking situation, you could get an outdoor car cover and put it on if you're expecting any snow in your area. Then all you have to do is knock off as much as you can with a brush or whatever else you use and pull the cover off. Used to work for me when I parked outside. I also have a remote start on my daily and I let the car run for a while with the defrosters on and by the time i go outside, the ice is sliding down the windshield.
