General road noise

What is the overall general road and engine noise like on a Touareg?

I am looking for a quiet driving vehicle. I noticed road noise increases on concrete and other surfaces.

How does the Touareg fare with road noise levels? especially when highway driving on noisy surfaces like concrete?

Go and test drive one and see for yourself.

Noise is so subjective and people will have very different perceptions based on their own idea of what is quiet and what is not.

I have test driven the touareg a couple of times and it seems quiet, but there is no opportunity to leave the city on a test drive and travel on the concrete highway roads to the south of vancouver in the usa. I notice a big difference once on the US roads. seem much noisier.

is there a sound measurement rating on cars that anyone knows of?

thanks

Concrete is always noisier, even in a Rolls Royce. And the choice of tires will make a difference too.

Yes and Yes. And from personal experience I can confirm there's noticeably more road noise in a Touareg equipped with 20" wheels vs. 18". Trade offs. Road noise vs. handling for example.

I'm pretty picky about road noise and I find the Touareg to be a nice fit. We had a 2012 Eos and the road noise was annoying. We had a 2010 CC and the road noise was the reason we sold it. The Touareg on a 11 hour trip was very quiet and comfortable to my ears.

That being said, the 2008 V6 engine is fairly growly/noisy - especially on the passenger side. The 2006 and older V8s seemed quieter.

Note: specifically we have a 2008 V6 with air suspension

I have driven my 2012 TDI on the I5. Much quieter than the Flawed Explorer I used to drive (on AT tires). I find the TREG quiet for a diesel SUV on both the OEM 20"Goodyear LS2 and 18" Pirelli ice & snow tires.

My only complaint is I wish I had discovered the Treg earlier in life
