I have the V6 australian model and have today noticed a clunk when moving between reverse and park (and vice-versa). This was after a drive of only about 5-6 kms. There was no problems moving from park thru to drive, only reverse and back again.

I have never noticed the noise previously but normally all windows are up when pulling into the garage so I may have missed it previously.

The car is about 6 weeks old and has travelled about 1400kms. VIN is 28291

Have had no other problems with car so far and am a loving owner of a fantastic vehicle. First VW and first 4wd, definately not the last.

This happened to me today reversing out of a parking space.

I didn't think too much about it because the same thing used to happed occasionally in my old Passat 4-Motion. I drove that car 60k+ in two years of road time, and it never manifested into something more than the occassional clunk. As a result, I'm not too worried about it in my T-Reg.

Its like the transmisission hesitates and then engages in a rough way.
Maybe its a 4-(X)Motion thing?

I get the clunk if i shift too quickly after starting. other than that no clunks. My starting procedure is now start, release park brake, shift. The release park brake step, gives me enough time between starting and shifting. No more clunking, will bring it up with the dealer on the next visit.

I don't know about no more clunks, but agreed on the shifting too quickly.

Mine clunks from park to reverse, but mostly when I am on a hill or the transmission was otherwise loaded before putting on the parking brake.
you have to remember that when you put an automatic transmission in park, you are putting physical lock in place on the gear components that can be stressed with the weight of the ENTIRE vehicle. The clucking you are hearing is that lock being released and the entire transmission springing to a new position.
