if your Touareg has the “dieselgate” fix applied, then it has different ECU/TCU tuning than it was originally released with. The ECU runs hotter EGTs, uses more adblue, and gets worse gas mileage, while the TCU is generally less responsive and shifts sooner to keep RPMs, and as a result, emissions down.

returning to a pre-fix TCM will enable a more driver-centric experience, though it’s still an OEM tune not aftermarket so it’s still a balance between efficiency and performance/driveability.
