Did this myself today and the easiest way i could find to open the hood is to release the latch support by removing the grill as mentioned, wedge the hood up gently with some wood and undo the 3x bolts that hold the latch to the hood itself. Not an easy 5 minute job but couldn't see any other way to do it. When the hood was up i found the connector near the airbox which had popped open and disconnected itself. Popped it back together and added some cable ties to stop it coming apart again and it works really well now. Thought this might benefit others before anyone spouts off about this being a 6 year old old thread ;-)

This is the only fix thread i could find for this issue using Google and hopefully it will get someone out of a muddle one day.
