It just occurred to me, if I should have restricted the poll to owners with a minimum amount of accumulated mileage. It wouldn't make much sense for say a 2012/2013 owner, with only 50km on the odometer, to participate in the poll.

I think a mileage restriction should be set in place. Not sure what it should be either. 20000, 30000, 40000 km?

It's too late for me to edit the poll question now so I leave it up to any of the mods if they want to edit the poll question.

Well, I thought about this good, and I think that it would be best that anyone here who has not logged at least 100000km (60000 miles) on their Touareg's odometer, to please NOT PARTICIPATE in the poll.

It will skew up the obvious numbers slightly, which I would imagine would be slightly inflated option#3 percentage.

05 V8 w/ 160,000KM original fluids

Never any issues since day 1..... However there is a very slight "hum" you can hear at low speeds while light on the throttle. I suspect either Diff of transfer case. I plan on putting fresh stuff in very soon, hopefully that will help!
Are you sure this is not a bad front bearing OR even a bad tire(s)?

Anyways, report back here if it ends up going away with the fresh diff oil, which I sadly doubt will help at all, but anything is possible(crossing fingers).

Thank you for the feedback sirjeff!

Never changed the fluid and never had any problems with it.. 100.000 miles.. but I am going to change it in May-June..
When you do, it would be really great if you could report back the condition of the driveline fluids. I'd also like to know, if it's your front or rear diff oil that looks the darkest and most broken down or not.

I'm the second owner on my 04 V6. As far as I know the diff oil has never been changed. I'm at 100k miles now, and will be giving this closer attention at my next oil change.
Report back if you remember, or if you can, the condition and colour of the fluid as it drains out on both front and rear diffs.

As I've mentioned before, my front diffs original factory fill was extremely dark, with no translucency, and was definitely at the end of its service. The rear diff on the other hand looked dark golden, translucent, almost new looking. Very interesting on the contrast between rear and front.

I just noticed that we got our very first vote in the "I experienced diff failure after draining/replacing the factory filled diff lubricant, and refilling with aftermarket diff lubricant" option of the poll.

Would it be possible if this individual could step forth and describe the experience and issue for us?

I respect anonymity, but seeing that this is such a rare case, it would be of great benefit to all if you stepped forth, and others who vote that option in the future as well for that matter.
