I'm not sure if this has been posted as of yet, but after quite a bit of searching I have not found what I'm looking for. Just bought a 16 Touareg V6 Sport w/Tech package a couple of months back. Doing a little bit of upgrades here and there. The 2017 NA Touareg Wolfsburg has the frameless auto dimming mirror and I believe some others do, but my 16 comes with the not so sexy plastic trimmed one. Anybody done the upgrade to the framless version? I'd like VW OEM version, but as I'm searching on VW parts they don't give the option for the frameless version. HELP!!

Funny how beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The frameless always look cheap to me.

Yep. We made it. Nope. We ain't going to use the two cents of plastic to frame it. We got a make a profit here!

But, if that is what you like, I hope you find one. :D

Thanks! This is super helpful! I am definitely ready to get away from the thick cheap plastic look of the mirror that comes in my Touareg. Clean lines like most of the rest of it!

When I bought the 2014 Passat the very first thing I noticed on the test drive was the massive TAN plastic frame on it. Why tan? Everything else is black/grey/aluminum. Thought it looked like the old Buddy Holly glasses. Within the first month I replaced it with the frameless ones... although a big part of it was that the car didn't have Homelink for the garage. The VW version I found has 3 buttons under the mirror for Homelink.

That's exactly how I felt. Just about everything else is more clean and polished, then they throw this plastic mirror up as if to say "oops. Forgot about that part. Just throw something up there that's cheap. Nobody will notice." Highly engineered and well thought out elsewhere then there's this ugly tan plastic wrapped thing right in your face. Oh well. She's gone now. As soon as I get outside today I'll grab a photo of the new one in place. Looks so much better!

^^That must be why I view it different in a T1. Frameless in a T1 would clash probably about as bad as the Frame clashes in your later model.

And I have seen VW do the "we updated everything but..." before and sometimes that one last old item really does clash with the new style.

PS: Why tan? Ha! No idea. VW also made them in a nice gray that would not have stood out so much in your interior. Truthfully, Sometimes I shake my head and wonder what the German designers were thinking.

Just to revive a helpful thread. I was able to nab one of these mirrors, didn't really know about it until I came upon this thread. I like to add things to the car every so often to keep it fresh and this was a nice little upgrade. It really does add a lil something to the interior and more importantly its more viewable area than the old. Plug-in-play
