Found some leaks today

Just did the oil change that was coming due on my '10 TDI. Changed the fuel filter as well. I checked the transfer case fluid and it was fresh so I asked the PO about it. He said xfer case and diffs were done at 100K miles. I also asked about the tranny. He said it would be due at 160K, so it must have been done at 80K. Makes me feel much better about it now.

While I was under there, I checked a few more things out. I found a couple of things leaking. Not sure what they would be. Any ideas?

This is on the front driveshaft (prop shaft).

This is above the front diff/transmission, on the back of the engine.

Bellhousing (is it still called that on a VW??) above the axle. I can't tell if it is oil or transmission fluid at this point.

And not leak related, but this is one of the two noticeable faults in the interior. Any idea on what can be done with this?

Testing!

@ilkz , thanks. That makes sense for the first two. The insulation rubbing the prop shaft was a bit damp. Is this anything to worry about at this point?

Im not fond of anything sitting on the drive shaft like that chunk of insulation. If it comes out easily that would help locate the source of the dampness and if it's not a cheap piece (what is on these things) I'd at least try to glue it together and put a weight on it so it dries flat.

I have identical slit lines in my interior above the glove compartment. 2010 TDI as well. I'm guessing it is airbag related but I haven't investigated further. It's really the only damage in the interior and it's frustrating that it is not really damage from use or wear at all. I'm not hopeful for a fix, but am interested.

Since it is an airbag, I'm not sure what to do, either. Somebody must know something. The guy I bought it from thought a leather/vinyl specialist might know what to do. I might try to find a leather or vinyl repair kit but whatever it is can't affect the airbag operation.

The tearing outline of the airbag is a common problem on older models that spend time in the heat. Nothing you can do besides replace the dash.

Fortunately the air bag in the dash on my '10 still looks like new. I hope it never gets that way.

I'm theorizing (though, certainly not sure) that if you use a good high-quality leather conditioner (like Meguiars) you likely will not have that issue. I'm wondering if its the vehicles that have never had their dashes treated and protected that have this issue after time.

Nice theory aside from I don't use any conditioners on mine. [emoji16]

Its just the dash cracking it has nothing to do with the airbag
