I have a 2013 TDI Sport w/ 135k miles. I purchased new in 13 and experienced no issues until now.

Last weekend while merging on interstate the glow plug light started blinking, went into limp mode. Was a tense situation but I was able to pull onto shoulder, turn off and immediately restart. When restarted only check engine light was on with full power restored.

Next day I stopped by O'Reillys for a scan.. P0101 indicating MAF sensor issue was only code. I cleaned the MAF sensor, check engine light disappeared after a few drives and now runs fine.

I was hoping it was simply a MAF cleaning issue but I've noticed my mpg since last refuel has gone from the typ +/- 30 to 25. I started also tracking MPG since start.. it's definitely declined suddenly.

Luckily a majority of the 135k miles has been road trips and commutes including interstate runs. I've kept up with maintenance over the years, just wish I would've educated myself on quality diesel when I purchased the car.

VCDS is on the way. I assume initial error is stored. Any one had the same issues? Any chance I could harm the car by driving while I wait on VCDS and sort the issue?

It could be possible that the MAF sensor is reading too much air weight (incorrectly) and the ECU is adding too much fuel as a result.
