Hi Again,
immediately after turning the ignition key and the engine starts I hear a single flap sound, as if a lid of a box has dropped closed, anyone any idea what this could be please.

It's probably exactly what it sounds like. One of your HVAC flaps opening/closing.

Post up the model year of your Touareg and where you are located (country is specific enough) so we have some clue as to which Touareg you are talking about! LOL! :- )

A VCDS scan will tell you if any of your flaps are malfunctioning.

Try starting it with and without the A/C switched on. See if there's a difference. I'm still betting on some of the air con/heater flaps moving around.

VCDS will help you diagnose your HVAC. There's a whole module (sometimes more!) for it. :- )
