Lately the motor fan on my 2005 V-8 continues to run after engine shut-off. This happens sporadically, not every time I shut it down.
It does not matter if the engine has been running hard or not. Last night it happened after a 2 mile drive. This morning I got up and started the car (for fear that the battery had run down) and the fan ran after shut-down again.
I took it in to the local dealer service dept after one event must have run all night and the battery was dead in the morning. Naturally, they could not replicate the event, so in their mind there is no problem. They told me it is within spec for the fan to run up to 17 minutes after shut-down. Now, I could understand this if the car was hot after running for a while. But not when it's cold. Furthermore, I bought the car new in 2005, have driven it 85,000 miles and this problem never happened until recently.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
Have you had a similar experience with the fan running? If so, what was the cure? It appears I will have to give the service dept specific instructions on what to do to remedy this. Unless I bring it in while an event is occurring they will never diagnose it, and that probably wont happen.
