Just did this today.
1st dealer told me that he couldn't order a car for me b/c VW was no longer taking orders for 2004s just 2005s and what I could find on lots. My guess is that he didn't want the business at a price I was willing to pay and wanted to either dump me or get me to buy from the lot.
Checked with two other dealers and they said that was BS. Made a deal with one dealer and left a deposit.
Frankly, I was treated well at the second dealer but I am concerned about the actual delivery of the car. Estimated time of arrival....3 months (fine with me, don't NEED a car until then anyway).
BTW, didn't cost me extra to do this.
