Engine Cover

I just noticed that other Touaregs have the engine cover...plastic cover that goes around the engine to makes it look nice. When asked...I was told by my dealer that VW stopped putting those on in second version of 2004 models. Does anyone know if this is true? Do 2005 models have the engine covers? Thanks!

There are NO MORE engine covers being put on.

Word on the street - last year - was VW stopped doing it because they would break and they didn't want to warranty those covers.

So, you're SOL, unless you want to buy them.

Thanks for the info. I guess I wanted to make sure that the dealer was telling me the truth. I don't think its worth paying $$$ for it...even though it does look nice.
Can someone post what it looks like without it?

I think my vin was 36k and I have one.

I think it just makes it look cool
I was just thinking, "Wow that looks cool!"
Useless to me, possibly even troublesome, but cool looking.

Totally agree! :evil_laugh:
I just got my 2005 treg and I dont have covers. I still want one.
How did they break? Were people taking them on and off a lot or something?
I have a new 05 V6 without the cover and I'm still very impressed with the tidyness of the engine compartment, if I had not read this thread, I would have never dreamed it once had additional covering. I wonder if other than cosmetic's this covering did anything else and I also wonder if the engine compartment is cooler without all the covers?
Nevermind.
I think the V10's still have the cover even....

I have a 2004 73xxx build and still has the covers, and I checked out some 86xxx V10's that didn't have all the options I wanted but I still think they had the covers if my memory is correct. Perhaps VW decided they would leave it on the V10's to reduce engine noise and the fact that there are not that many V10's to worry significantly about warranty issues on these covers. If anyone knows that the newer production V10's don't have the covers please post.

Thanks!
I have a 86,5XX Vin V10 and it has covers. Haven't tried removing them to know if their a plus or minus. I do know that the owner of the dealership that sold the car cut his hand on the right one putting it back on after I asked him to remove it so I could look.
You're the first customer in history that got blood out of the dealer...normally it's the other way around.
Possibly they would keep the dirt off a little? I’ve only seen them in pictures so I can’t tell how well they cover things.
