Having just endured a total cluster mess with the local dealership and VW USA over what is and what isn't covered under the EPA mandated 8 year 80,000 mile emissions warranty (they wanted $800 to replace one of the NOX sensors at 41,000 miles) - here is the handy Q&A PDF from the EPA website - it is very comprehensive and clear - might want to print and put a copy in your glove box - http://www.epa.gov/obd/pubs/420f09048.pdf

Now we have an appointment for a warranty replacement of the sensor.

Wouldn't the NOX sensors fall under 2yr/24000 miles looking at the EPA paper?

I don't have the Touareg manual in front of me to compare...

We've driven the 2011 Touareg - 42,000 miles... The NOX sensor is part of the OBD system - waiting for a response from an EPA OBD expert to clarify if the 8/80,000 covers just the OBD computer or all of the sensors, as well - along with how they expect a "clean diesel" to stay clean without any coverage on any of the parts in the DEF (adblue) system? The dealer is actually doing a comp replacement of the sensor - the warranty is not covering it.
