As others have said, a hop-up step is the quickest, easiest and best looking fix whilst having the advantage of serving a dual role for roof washing!
I don't know how infirm M&D are but have you seen this sort of thing?
new rotating swivel revolving home car easy access cushioned seat Car Pictures
I had a step and one of these when collecting mother-in-law from her new hip operation - made life a lot easier getting the old girl in and out of the car. The swivel I had was much thinner, more like this below, but it worked fine.
