Hi all,

New Touareg owner (YaY.). I've got aging parents, and I frequently drive them around, but getting in/out of touareg seems to be challenging for my mother. I looked into running boards, but I think they're too small to make a difference, and non-oem ones that go lower down and stuff don't seem like a good idea to me.

Enter these chinese electronic/retractable/whatever running boards. I would likely install these myself, but I was wondering if anyone else here is familiar with them? I've searched everywhere but haven't found much about how the running boards is triggered to open/close.

Anyone here know anything about these?

Thanks for the feedback. One other thing I'm wondering (not that it means I'd spend money on it) is if aftermarket air ride setups exist for the T3/T4 Touaregs...

You could trigger it off the interior lights that turn on when you open the door. Or you could add a door switch.

Not a fan. What if I have lights off, or I turn them on while driving!?!?! I figured it was something like that though.

It's an option on Range Rovers - when when I was doing the rounds before choosing a Touareg, I went into the RR dealer and had a good look round the outside of a RR Sport - but standing by the rear door I opened the driver's door to look inside - promptly got a fierce blow on the ankle as the electric step deployed.

After I recovered and went to get it I found it less than helpful as a step.

It's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Better to get height-adjustable air suspension.

it must piss you off for it to be worth the response you provided, which is intriguing - I haven't seen one ever around here with them, maybe they look awful enough to upset you. However, I am doing this out of necessity, it very much is a problem that exists, but maybe you missed that explanation in OP??. I'd love to get Air, but I figure it's very well documented as not available in North America.

How about some solid step stools instead...toss 'm in the trunk once your precious cargo is aboard...reverse the process when you get where you're going.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea - simple solution to a simple problem. Plus, it can serve double duty for when i wash it.
