I'm like the canary in the coalmine, or the guinea pig, or just an early adopter, but I needed a fix and the eco-plug did it for me. Thank goodness, here is one pic:
Trying to go back to a dealer, never mind that at least two different dealers had done the oil change at 10,000 and 20,000 miles, and that replacing the oil pan requires pulling the motor, thank goodness the oil pan is steel AND that VW made a nice big flat area around the hole for the magnet and the special washer to hold and seal perfectly.
The plug installed easily and pulled itself into place really nicely. I like that I can just take some vice grips and get the plug out when it is time for my next oil change. Once my wife has her free 10,000 mile oil change done by the dealer, I'll be getting another plug to replace hers as I can almost be sure that the next tech will probably screw up the drain bolt again.
I have changed oils in so many vehicles, probably dozens of times, and have never screwed up a drain bolt so how a tech could have screwed up my drain hole is beyond my comprehension. I am thankful for the eco-plug and he'll get another one sold one of these days. I'm now a pro at putting the front end of my T3 up on jack stands, using my cordless drill to get out the bolts holding up the front skidplate and getting to the drain bolt and getting it out and getting the next one in while the oil is pouring out, maybe 3-4 ounces anyway, no big deal.
