Dynaudio (T3 Exec trim) question: center channel?

Hi everyone,

I've searched the forums guessing this has been discussed but cannot find an answer so hopefully someone out there with a 2011+ T3 with the Exec trim can help me resolve this discrepancy:

- In VWoA's literature (have the 2013 Touareg brochure with me) they mention the Dynaudio system has 10 speakers: 4 woofers, one in each door, 2 mid-range in front doors, and 4 tweeters, one in each door

- On Dynaudio's website on the Touareg (Dynaudio - All there is.), they mention "12 perfectly integrated Dynaudio loudspeakers... including a dedicated 2-way centre channel speaker"

So who's right? I've seen pics and walked by Exec trimmed T3's in the area (none in stock at any local dealers), but can't identify if and where that mystery center speaker is located. Is it in the defroster grill? Is VWoA simply not advertising it, or did they end up scrapping it and not including the speaker in the cars?

Help! I am considering the Dynaudio system, and thus the expensive Exec line trim, and one reason for it would be the improved soundstage of having a center channel to solve for some of the poor speaker placements in the doors. If there's no center speaker, I'm less thrilled about the $$$ for the upgrade.

Thanks for your help people!

It has a center channel.

Is the delta of 2 speakers the deciding factor for you to spend more for the Exec package?

I've heard perfectly staged systems without center channels FWIW.

Not necessarily THE deciding factor, but I do get a little disgruntled when there's misinformation out there from the manufacturer, especially as it relates to audio / in-car electronics. The little stuff like album art, track information over bluetooth, and, yes, the physical presence of a speaker in a premium sound option ends up mattering to me when considering a $60k vehicle (not to mention when, according to posters on this forum, Toyotas and Kias have better stock stereos and bluetooth / iOS integration than the T3).

As an owner of a 2010 JSW TDI, had some issues around Bluetooth and advertised functionality versus what I actually had installed in my vehicle from the factory. That was ultimately an easy fix (swapping bluetooth modules from 9W2 to 9W7), but has me skeptical sometimes of VWoA's accuracy with regards to this stuff. Love VW vehicles, just wish electronics and audio were better... and better documented.

I had looked into this a while back and I think the result was that the Dynaudio web site isn't up to date, the Touareg specs from VW are accurate.

So you're saying there is NOT a center channel? Where did your info / proof come from?

In any case, now I'm confused, with one of you saying there is a center channel speaker, and another saying there is not.

Anyone able to confirm, one way or the other?
I'm not sure. I was under the impression it does not have center.
The 2013 Exec with Dynaudio absolutely does have the center speaker.
My 2012 has a center channel. The sound is better than most factory stereos I've heard - only it's lacking a bit on the bottom end. I'll be adding an Image Dynamics IDQ12 to help round that out.

If you're comparing the Touareg to a Kia or Toyota, I'm concerned for your car buying criteria.
The dynaudio site is correct on how many drivers are in the SUV... What they don't tell you is that it's all optical to the 12 channel amp in the rear on the drivers side... Also the center channel has two drivers in it... The specs for the size of what is installed can be found on dynaudio website ... I have a 2012 exec and found the low end lackin so I installed a 10 in a sealed box with a 760w(380 real) amp and it really brings it to life... To upgrade the dynaudio system will cost a lot more than a non dynaudio car, because of every thing being transmitted via optical cables... From DVD in glove box to brain in right rear to amp in left rear its all fiber optic...
