Hi,
I have ´06 T2 V10 and I am wondering whether it is possible to have fog lights switch on instead of bi-xenon lights as DRL's I have a euro switch, if possible, what is the VGA-com code?

Thankx
Vigfus

Not automatically - at least I have not seen it done. There was another thread on the forum about using the fog lights as the "coming home" lights which has not been achieved either as of now.

It may not be possible for a reason. Over here I think fog lights are only legally allowed to be used "during abnormal atmospheric conditions". Therefore using them as DRL's is not permitted, so there is no automatic function. However it's not policed and very common to see them used as DRL's in Melbourne.

Did anyone ever get this figured out? I am a firm supporter of DRLs to increase my visibilty to other drivers on the road, but it seems silly to have to have my bixenons on during the day when I have fog lights.

My 2005 Audi A4 used to have the foglights and park lights come on for DRLs.....I can't see why this shouldn't be possible with the Touareg coding.

No one ever has that I am aware. I turned mine off and see no real benefit to them what so ever. Everyone has become used to them now so they are not something to draw attention imo.

I like my drls. I think it adds to safety and visibility. It adds visibility - no question that you can see cars with drls better than those without.

If they didn't work, I suppose people with motorcycles would be shutting them off. In any event - they can't hurt. Just one persons opinion.

They make more sense on a motorcycle then cars. Biggest issue I see with DRL's is people get stupid with them and when it gets dark they have headlights on and forget to turn their lights on leaving you following some idiot with no tail lights on and a dark car making them a hazard. You would not believe how many I see driving around like this and it is scary. It is even worse in pouring down rain on a highway where you can't see them until you are on top of them. I have witnessed this too many times and I would rather have my lights all on or all off, not half on. I have also witnessed times with some newer cars where the dash is all digital and bright which makes these people think they turned their lights on and they have nothing on. In that respect I don't feel DRL's make a difference, but make things worse in certain conditions.

And WHY do some car manufacturers have their DRLs set up with front headlights on, and dash lights on, but no tail lights????????????????? Stupidest thing ever! I see 10's of cars driving around in this condition every day in the dark. Their dash is lit up, so they ASSume their lights are on. But they have no parking lights and no tail lights! Stupid!! Not just digital dashes, this is on cars with analog gauges - they are always backlit.

I just posted this to another thread, however this may be a better place to ask the same question. So I just disabled my daytime running lights in order to drive the Long Island beaches at night without blinding the other surfcasters with my xenons. It's nice to have the option of turning them off, however where are my parking lights?? It would be nice to at least have some running lights or parking lights with the switch selected to park. Does anyone know of a way to operate with orange parking lights only? Thanks

You need to install a European light switch to do that - very quick and easy but you need to make sure you either remove the wire or bend the pin away for the rear fog lights or you'll get an error if you try to turn them on accidentally. The switch is about $80 - ECS Tuning has them. 5 minute job and well worth it. I bought one and love it. It also allows you to turn on the instrument lights with the parking lights which is very handy on gloomy days as well. Search a bit and you'll find a few threads on it...

Excellent! I'll look into it. Thanks a bunch.

The parking lights are all the other lights that come on other than the headlights themselves. Commonly referred to as running lights as well. Not sure where either term originates from, but that's what we always called them here in the U.S.

Don't you all mean side lights . . .

Perfect!! Exactly what I needed for beach driving at night. With DRLs deactivated, I can select off, parking/side lights on or parking lights and fog lights on. Brilliant!

This was mine after I install the euro switch! I could run fog light / angel eyes / park light by themselves.. Ones you get the switch you have to take out pin 7 or just break it off or you'll get and error code in your dash!

Worth to mention: I have read that the Treg side lights/position lights automatically turn off (with key out) after a while. Would like to know how long is that period of time?
So, definitely they are not the parking lights!!!

On early Touaregs the DRLs are your dipped headlights.

You should be able to turn them on yourself using the scrolling wheel and buttons on the steering wheel and looking through the menus.

My 2003 ran with those for the 8+ years I had it though I did convert the headlights to HIDS as the standard halogens are so bad on dark wet nights that they are bloody dangerous.

Go to HIDS4U http://www.hids4u.co.uk/ and get a set.

You need H7 PROJECTOR, 5000K, 55 Watt, CANBUS error free.

Use STRATHY at the checkout as the discount code for 25% off.

The menus include other tricks including auto door locking after moving off, for example.

Also do take time NOW to read the link in my signature on buying a used Touareg. You will learn a lot and possibly save money too.

It also tells you where to look for known faults, especially the prop shaft centre bearing, and possible corrosion on the rear doors.

Mine went in 8 times with the HIDs and they were never a problem!

The new owner had a new MoT a month or two back and the HIDs weren't a problem for him either!
