Not sure where to post this. But I have several times needed to carry cargo that is longer than the rear cargo area. This has resulted a bit of difficulty finding a way to tie down the rear hatch to keep it partially closed. I have for now used a tie down strap wrapped around one rear strut and then attached to the trailer hitch.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

try the roof rack or at minimum crack your driver's side window

If your using rope, you can push a loop into the door latch ( so it becomes trapped by the latch ) then tie down to the tow hitch or other location. when you want to open the door you can simply use the door handle, the latch will let go of the rope, easy.

But do also take the advice on the drivers window, wind it down a bit, with the back door open even just a little bit when you drive the air pressure will cause the exhaust fumes to get sucked into the cabin...:???:
