Hi all.

I have a problem with the electric seat (drivers side) whereby it will move forward and backwards, and also the front of the seat will move up and down, but the rear seat height movement functionality is no longer available. (Used to work when the car was picked up 6 months ago)

Before I pull the seat apart..... does the seat motor use / have a controller sitting on the canbus network and if so, is there a way I can attempt to manipulate the position of the seat to check if the fault is in the switch mech or elsewhere.

I can live with the seat position as it is now but like any self servicing treg owner I am just chasing niggling faults so any help or past experience would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Wayne

I had a look at the module list with the Vcds and the seat module are not present in my car. I have not got the memory seat option or heated rear seat installed, so I was unable to connect and control any of the seat functions.
I assume they are all locally controlled from under the seat.

Back to ze drawing board.

My passenger seat is having the same issue/s. Non-memory but they are heated (which also hasn't worked for 12 months now)

You're lucky it's the passenger side. I was thinking about swapping the parts needed from the passenger seat if compatible with the drivers side.

I will continue to update the thread when I get something more to report.

Thinking your seat motors might just be dying. If you can, try hitting it with hammer lightly while driving it woth button. If it starts moving, then you might want to start looking for a new one. Other motors work too, if they look similar. They might have different cable lenght but they can be changed. Motors don usually have diagnostics, not sure about memory seats. When lumbar support motor stopped working in my b6 s4, found that a2 lumbar support motor was the same just with different cable.

A long overdue update:

After the passenger seat also started to fail, (forward and backward motion this time) I finally had enough of sitting in the wrong position and had a go at fixing the seat position motors or what ever had failed Luckily with out too much effort I was able to fix both seats.

In a nutshell, the problem was with the switch module in both cases. after some fiddling around trying to get access to get the module out (run the seat forward to get to the 3 screw under the front ) I removed the drivers side switch and tested and cleaned all contacts. it was working on the bench, so I retested it on the car without reassembling everything and bingo. full functionality.

So I then repeated on the passenger side, and to my surprise, again after cleaning the switch's out with contract cleaner and reproving all contacts functioned before replacing it, I now have full movement on both seats.

The micro switches used in side the modules are the same for each movement so I think any one could fail in the same way, even though the switches all physically felt OK the contact was obviously not functioning.... After a good spray and clean everything is now back to 100%. I just wish I took it apart 5 years ago...

In case any one needs the part numbers for a 7L touareg: Switch module with no memory, with heating: 7L6 959 765 (LHS) and 7L6 959 766 (RHS)
