When I bought my Treg, it was a demo model and came without the driver assistance package. Is it worthwhile having? What are the main benefits/drawbacks?

Driver Assistance Package consists of:
Heated steering wheel, Side Assist, Lane Assist, Proactive Occupant Protection System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist with Emergency City Brake.
Further details can be found on Page 28 in the current 2014 Touareg brochure.

We've found the blind spot and crash collision warning most useful, followed by the ACC. The lane departure was annoying sometimes and we turned it off.

ACC was very useful in a traffic jam coz it will slow down to a stop and accelerate when the front car moves. But it will turn off when the Treg is stationary for a few seconds and you've to manually accelerate up. I wish the Treg wud just automatically move when the front car moves without driver intervention even if its stationary.

Though I only encountered once at the traffic lights and it was unexpected coz there was no chance of a collision.. When the collision warning came on.. and you didn't brake.. the Treg will e-brake itself.. but I dare not try this again..

But mind you.. its just convenience.. we've been doing this manually all the time.. like turning our heads to check our blind spots. What I didn't like was the ACC stick was on the same side as the light controls.. a couple of times when I wanted to cancel the ACC.. I accidentally high beamed the fellas in front. Embarrassing.

Whether it was worth it.. I liked it esp the blind spot warning.

Would not have a car without Driver Assist now. An absolute pleasure when freeway driving.

BTW happygolucky you can "highbeam" the ACC stalk if you want to get going again instead of tapping the go pedal.
