OK Guys and Gals hope i get your attention regarding my sump plate career being over.

I have had quite a few requests for sump plates and probably need to make one for a close friend who i talked into a Touareg. (What are mates for :drunk:)

If i get enough expressions of interest and by that i mean minimum of 8 plates doesn't matter what Touareg series i will do a 1 off run for those who are prepared to step up with their deposit.

PM me with your expressions of interest and i will tally the numbers and get back to those concerned and see if and when this can be made work.

Please can you send me the CAD files? I'm down in Africa. Courier will cost me a fortune.

You're kidding right?

As IF you just asked that.
The guy obviously invested all sorts of time into the R&D and design of his part (I don't even know what we are talking about, but it's irrelevant) and now you expect him to "give it all way" in order to save you shipping costs? Let's be realistic. You obviously have the means to get one made up, but apparently are too cheap to invest into that (read money & time).

Just man the EFFF up and pay for the courier, then take his product and Reverse Engineer it or have someone else do it for you and pay them. Then you can give YOUR work away to others to SAVE THEM shipping fees.

He's providing a part as a solution to a problem that you and other have. If you want to buy the design off him and he's interested in that option, that's a whole other story, but I'm sure the price will be significantly more than your courier fees.

I still can't believe you asked that! :surprise:

Jip. I have never spent hours helping people here, have I?

After all the back and forth help through the years, if a member gets that type of response after asking for a bit of help, then perhaps it's better I log out and delete my bookmark.

No idea, and that's between you and the designer of the product being discussed.
You got that sort of response from me, because I know how much work goes into designing and manufacturing a product, and people who ask for the "CAD FILES" at the end of such activity, really hit a nerve with me.

There's no point in us two arguing over it, perhaps the OP has gotten great value\help out of your back and forth over the years, and you guys can work something out.

Sorry but I don't respond well to anyone asking for CAD data of a product that I'm selling. (which is what I interpreted from the above)

Hopefully you see this before you commit forum user suicide due to my response!

I accept that not everyone will agree on certain things on a public forum. That's a given.

But the best we can do is respond with manners and politeness because we don't know all the variables.

I get that you are upset and rightly so, but we can, as treggers, be a bit more polite to each other I reckon as theis forum is for treggers, by treggers. If we disassociate us from each other......

"forum user suicide" LOL

I have to agree though, asking for the design files for a product that someone has designed to sell is crossing the line. If you want the CAD files, then go make your own measurements and draft up your own fabrication drawings. What do you think the dealer would say if you went in looking for a new HPFP and said, "that's too expensive, just send me the CAD files." Do you think they'd ask you for a thumb drive or tell you to take a hike? No matter how often you show up to offer them advice and assistance around their service shop, they aren't going to give away their engineering/R&D for free.

It's called Intellectual Property, and it is a very important aspect in the design and manufacturing world. No offense, but it is in bad taste to ask someone for their R&D work.

While i appreciate all the witty banter back and forth it not worth arguing about.
4e is not the first to ask this question and while he is correct in his assistance to people over the years which has been much appreciated by all.

The design will always stay with me.

Thanks. I accept and respect your decision.

I will eventually get to do my own design then. I need to redo the side covers any way as well as the left air tank is exposed at the moment and the pump cover is in tatters. God forbid the guy who asks me for the measurements ;)

Hello Drag,
Put me down as interested in getting a sump plate (2007 T2 build).

Greg

PS. Not wanting to start a flame war, but have you considered getting a fabricator in the Hunter area to make the plates under license - that way you control the IP, get some revenue and satisfy the ongoing (albeit small) demand?

I'm interested in one for a 2013 V6 TDI, located in Canada, but can have it shipped here or to USA, whatever is cheapest.
Some years ago I bought one of Engineer's plates for my first Touareg off a ClubTouareg member. I recall that it was one of eight or so that were shipped together (US to AU) to save costs. If you can link up with other members you might be able to do the same.

If I may ask a couple questions, what sort of dollars are we looking at for one of these sump guards?
Any idea on shipping costs within Australia?
And I guess a second question from me is, have you made one for the V8 TDI in a T3 model?
Have you got any photos of the product?

Cheers.

Hi Snerlo
Plates will be $900

Freight generally say to Melbourne or Brisbane would be less than $120
A V8 T3 would not be an issue.
It can be had with what ever writing on it you want or none at all.

I don't have the Treg at hand but I plan to make one too myself.
I already asked Drag for the cad files thinking it was possible to share since I'm a long way from Australia but I understood his decison :)
Thing is since he stopped making them I have a hard time understanding why he is still not willing to share but hey he does what he wants with his files and I respect that !
Now I have a friend who has a big metal workshop and some nice machinery, and he uses autocad.
We can probably work something together. I bought the plastic guards to help draw the sump.
Let me know if we can work something out. I can offer help with insalling autocad.
I'm in france by the way. My friend suggested to use stainless steel instead of aluminum. He is looking for a treg these days and if he gets one this will speed things up a bit.
Drag is welcome to help if he feels inclined.
