I'm dismantling the interior of my Touareg to find a water leak.
It's coming down the rear door pillar on the passenger side and soaking the carpet. I've been through all of the drain cleaning processes recommended without success. Fun anyway.
The water ends up on the deck under the rear seat so water coming from the front is unlikely.
I've negotiated the removal of the rear side panel, the rear pillar cover, pulled out the seat backs and started to remove the door sills. I've removed the chrome caps, but I'm confused about the clips holding the sill to the floor. I've removed the screws. View the attached photo showing the location of the clips.
The first assumption is the that these are just V clips, but resist prying.
Does anyone have experience or a manual on how to remove these?
Also I expect to have to remove the head liner, so any comments on that would be helpful as well.
Thanks for your assistance.

I use a flat end screw driver under the front, the end towards the front of the car and it came right up. No problem putting my new in either.

I have removed my rear door sills, using plastic trim wedges, was quite an effort but they came off without damage. Still not sure if it was the correct method, but was able to get them off without wrecking them, and replacing was simply remounting the wedges , some of which remained in the body, and replacing.

As I said, it worked , but I am unsure if it was the correct approach....Could not promise that this method would not run the risk of damage. sorry.

Found Major Water Leak

After much Ado, I found the water leak. The sunroof drain nylon ball snapped off, allowing the sunroof runoff to drain directly down the pillar to the rear foot well.
pulling off the panels and headliner was a bit of an effort to peak in and spy the problem, waiting for parts.
The carpet however was a nightmare. I'll include some more photos for the help of anyone else who must undertake this adventure on another post. It's still drying out, the foam attached to the carpet doesn't want to release the water. For now here are some photos that show the leak as a broken nylon ball that separated from the drain piece. It appears that the nylon tiewrap was acting as a ratchet during hot/cold expansion of the drain tube tugging on the ball seal, eventually cracking and severing the ball completely. My suggestion would be to tape a tiewrap to the hose using another tiewrap to secure the first to the headliner bracket. This way the hose will not creep over time.
I've removed the carpet completely to dry, however the front foot well also has additional foam padding against the firewall. The base of this is still soaked and resists drying. I've propped it up on a wire dish rack to allow ventilation for now. I reinstalled the seats to use the vehicle while it's drying out. I'm concerned that there still may be another leak to the front compartment. I always see an excessive amount of water under the passenger side on the ground from the air conditioner drain. I didn't remove the headliner entirely and there may be a similar issue on the front sunroof drains. We'll see. A small victory for now with plenty of work left before it's completed.
Since this was caused by a design flaw (if you call a tiewrap too tight a design issue), and it may also be the source of some of the other water leaks that have been posted which do not appear to be clogged drain tubes.
Happy Touring.

Thanks for taking the time to photograph the parts! Although I'm not experiencing water in the cabin, I'll put this on my "to check" list when it gets (if it gets) warmer here in the northeast.

How can I get the 'next to foot rest' door sill piece (in front of regular door sill, has hood release handle) off?
Driver seat.
