Sort of looks like a childproofing lock key (the magnetic kind)... I wonder if it has something to do with lock boxes for vehicles (you see them on the windows of new cars) where the vehicles keys are kept?

That's an iButton. Think of it like a prox card but instead of using radio it uses a physical connection.
