My 2011 Touareg v6 is in the shop getting an engine rebuild due to carbon build up ! Had a cylinder misfire and it was down hill after that! The truck has 67,000 miles ! Since I'm going to spend a lot of money on this repair I would like suggestions on preventing this from happening again! Such as treatments or any other useful info! It's a shame I love my truck but my husband is ready to get rid of it!

Use good quality fuel of the highest octane rating you can buy.

And get a good warranty going on it if you haven't got one.

First..... octane rating has no impact on the carbon buildup
Second..... absolutely be using a top tier fuel (chevron/texaco/shell/costco etc)
Third...... I run a can of BG44K in my tanks every 10k miles and have not had any carbon buildup issues.

This may sound silly but redline the car every once on a while.

Take This with a grain of salt but a mechanic acquaintance mentioned that the first thing they do when trying to clear carbon buildup is to take the Car out and flog it.

The high heat generated does tend to burn off some of the carbon.

My preventative maintenance is to floor it every now and again.

I am also a fan of BG44K and flogging it every so often to reduce carbon buildup.
