V8 v V10

As coincidence would have it...I wrote these impressions of the V8 and V10 almost 3 years ago (to the day).

If memory serves, I believe I owned the V8 Touareg (not FSI, of course) for a few thousand miles then traded in on the V10 Touareg when they became available here in the USA.

waste gate?

I didn't think the V10 turbos had a turbo waste gate. I thought the turbos used (variable) vane attitude to control the amount of turbo RPM (and therefore boost). I think there are vanes on the turbo housing that can adjust the amount of exhaust gas that hits the turbo vanes.

I imagine that you would get some spool-up with a power brake launch, but I would think that the ECU would "feather" the turbo vanes in response to engine load. Of course, I'd guess that there is some load on the engine with a power brake launch...even if you're not moving.

Only one way to find out...hook up the VAGCOM and measure the turbo/boost blocks during the power brake segment of the run.
