Delete, tune and now p0234 overboost code?

2013 tdi exec. 148,00 miles. Out of warranty.

Installed rawtek delete and malone stage 2 on saturday. Drove 5 miles home all is well. Go to leave sunday and I have a CEL as soon as I start it up. Scan it (snap on scanner, not VCDS) and its got p0234 overboost. Clear it. Drive 15 miles no issues. Park for the night and CEL is on again this morning on startup. Drive fine the 35 miles @ 80mph to the office with the light on.

This has never happened before and seems odd that It popped up immediately after doing the delete and tune. Any thoughts? What could I have screwed up? Linked to one of the tied up/disconnected sensors?

I don't have VCDS. I haven't reached out to Malone yet. Figured I'd ask here first. Thanks.

He will reflash and his ECU will be bricked. "Oh you must have flashed it wrong."

Why would you say such a thing!??😆

Reflash went well. SOTPD (Seat Of The Pants Dyno) says its more lively. Could just be a placebo effect though. No CEL so far. Guess we'll see how it goes.

Here is this mornings log

Did you use the tunezilla "autotuner" service?
I'm not driving mine at the moment, just finishing up rawtek install. I made up a egr cooler delete which works good but on the first couple of cold starts after reinstalling everything I noticed under a bit of load the engine was misfiring and blowing blue smoke probably from fuel.
Maybe some air in the fuel rail as you have to remove bridge line. Seems to be ok now

tunezilla "autotuner" service
Dunno what that is?

When I purchased the flash a ticket was opened with support. When the CEL came on I replied to that support ticket indicating I may have an issue. Waited until my VCDS came in, got heckled here as I fumbled through figuring out how to get a good log recorded 😝, then finally uploaded that log to the support ticket. They wrote me a new file and I then I reflashed it.

Yeah you got it.
"Autotune" is just a bot that takes the hardware/software version log and matches it with a file tuned with everything you asked for and you download it. I noticed my 2014 Jetta file is actually taken from the ecu and tuned rather than just a log file. The CP14 ecus seem to have more anti-tuning checks that the CP44.

If you want custom software for a different setup you go with a ticket system and wait in line. Or like you had an issue with your tune.

Nothing like a good heckle, as long as you are willing to take it feel free to give it!!

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I might join in on the fun. Well I just finished delete and installed tune. And guess what?

Since we're on the "fun" aspect of things, would you guys get all sideways if I were to $hit talk your canned stage whatever tune and deletes that are making hot air instead of power?
Have a look at your IATs!
I bet your EGTs are also crap!
How much coal are you rolling?
I've attached a visual of my stock setup, while attempting to find a similar data point so you can see the difference!

I'm not in the business of shaming a company, I give a company one chance to fix the issue but after that it's no holes barred. It seems like this is an ongoing issue as its becoming apparent that the "autotune" bot isn't dialed in properly with this ECU.

I'm not mad but I do want it sorted. It's not my primary vehicle so it's not going to effect me much right now.

As for smoke, it's cold here and I was driving at night so while I noticed a cloud , it was probably more condensation than smoke. All I know is a guy in his Dodge ram looked angry when I gapped him good at a set of lights last night during acceleration test. Bad sport flipped the birdy when he lost... no surprise there.

Just have a look at them. I don't like them, but I don't like the EGTzzz as per @ValveCoverGasket
Lots of others are OK with 930c EGTs and never look at IATs.
I think these canned tunes make a lot of hot air, and they give you the extra grunt down low for the "holy it's fast" feel while putting a lot of heat into everything (turbo, oil, coolant, pistons, etc)

You're in the industry, so you know what heat does to everything.... just raising flags so you can avoid damaging your stuff.

Don't trust anyone.... only trust data

I agree with you 100% , heat and metal fatigue go hand in hand. I wouldn't allow my turbo to reach a sustained 930c as that shaft is going to cook anything that touches it at those temperatures, namely oil. Which will screw the journal bearing.

I haven't had the opportunity to take the treg out properly to log it as ive been fixing up my 2010 golf tdi which is going to be my son's surprise bday present as he's been eyeing it up for a while.

Malone is FAR from the best tuner out there. He just happens to be an easily accessible tuner. I've been saying this for a decade.

Today i didnt get overboost codes but I'm not going to just leave it as is. Waiting for support which isnt the quickest by any means. I'm not batting for malone but he does make some very good tunes. However I think his divergent company "tunezilla" has issues that need to be sorted out before he starts getting a bad name.

People have been running that in far less engineered diesels for many decades now. Short bursts are fine. Hell, diesel pullers run much hotter than that.

Don't be a sheep. The info is out there if you want the truth.
Start by reading about how the piston shape differs between a tractor and a direct injected diesel.
Uhhh you know they pull with light duty pickup motors and tractor trailers too, right? I know the info. Been building diesels a very long time since a mechanical rack 12v Cummins was in the stable. Short bursts are fine. Aluminum alloy has an even higher melting point, which most European diesels have used since the 90s
