Went to load up Treg this morning with food to take to Thanksgiving dinner. Hatch wouldn't open w/ remote, tried release on driver's door - still wouldn't open. Knew something wierd was happening, decided maybe it would work with car running. Put key in ignition, nothing. At this time I realized there was no power, no dash display, no interior lights, nothing. Tried to remove key, it won't budge. Lights were in off position, car is in Park and front wheels are straight.

Hooked up battery charger, no power, no lights, nothing. Charged battery for 7 hours, still nothing, not even an interior light.

Called Raodside Assistance, they said they can't get to it tonight, and I should call back tomorrow and they will come get it. This should be interesting as the Treg is stuck in Park in the single car stall in my garage.

Any ideas?

Prozac dont worry mate ! Been there my self. Take your pen and puch the tiny button on the ignition barrel and pull the key out. Then put the key back in and turn it 3 times anti clock wise and then switch the ignition on (providing the battery has been fully charged after 7 hours).
If your key dont come out puch butten with pen again and remove key, leave your car for recovery cause you nead power to move the gear leaver.

Let us know how you got on?

Good luck

Just the beginning.....

Read my postings. I am pursuing th lemon law!!! My vehicle has been in the shop for 23 days since I bought it on 9/26/04. Similar problems, warning lights, alignment, would not keep memory, etc. Last problem it was dead after I tried starting it late one night after work. The dealer even replaced the alternator , it was fine for about 20 miles by then at the dealership when I wen to pick it up on Wednesday it would not start! DEAD. I have a loaner now and I am in touch with VW of America customer care. I am demanding that they buy my vehicle back and refund my las two monthly payments, and down payment!!
I am going back to LEXUS, I never had a problem with my RX300. I should have never traded it in!!

Got it jump started and took it to dealership. They observed it for two days and discovered a "loose ground strap on the negative terminal of the battery".

VW should have put the battery in an area accesible to the owner, perhaps under the hood like the millions of other cars on the road. I could have fixed this in 2 minutes.

Yes and no. The batttery should last longer inside the vehicle due to it not seeing as much heat and cold as it does in the engine compartment.

I had an interstate that lasted at least 9 years in my old '87 5000s - under the rear passenger seat if memory serves... never had to replace that battery and it was working fine when I sold it...

Yeah, I had an '85 Audi 200 with the battery under the rear seat. I will admit, that is a better location than under the driver's seat. Only took two bolts to get to the battery if I remember correctly. But putting the battery there on the Touareg would probably cut fuel capacity by a couple of gallons.

If that is the original battery, you are overdue for a replacement. I replace mine at 5 years old. It is easier and cheaper to replace when you want, rather than when you have to. Murphy's law is in effect, battery will fail late at night on a weekend when you are far away from home.

I just had a small key issue which might help others. In my 2004 auto 2.5D The key has been reluctant to come out of the ignition on switch off. Dealer wanted £85 just to look! The dash tells me the box is in neutral, but the screen says select neutral to remove key! Grrrrrrrrrrrr! Hang on, the button in the side of the selector lever is sticking in the in position, I wonder if a little lubricant will help? One squirt of juice and its working fine! Fingers crossed though.

2005 Touareg no battery power

I have a 2005 with no battery power at all. I have charged the battery (or attempted to charge it)
The battery will not charge when charger is hooked up to terminals under the hood. The charger is working but does nothing when hooked to terminals. Key is stuck in ignition and there is absolutely no power inside the car.
Is there a relay or fuse that needs checked so that it will take a charge or receive power to move seat and get to battery?
