We have just purchased Touareg 2015. Only noticed after reading this post that both of my lower DRL are not working. I kind of like the look without.
The car was purchased privately in Victoria and driven back to NSW unregistered on a permit. The car then had to be inspected by a mechanic for registration. It's not obvious that the bottom DRL aren't working. If you weren't VW Touareg savvy you probably wouldn't notice. The car passed inspection without issue. Will the car pass your state road test with both failed (or possibly switched off perhaps)?
If not then did you buy from a dealer with a warranty?
Can you provide any details about the case in the U.S.?Just noticed this on my 2016 LUX. My CPO warranty ends in January, 49.3k on the odometer. It is insane that an LED would fail so quickly. Clearly a known and widespread issue. Hopefully will get VW to pay for all or most of it. The entire DRL LED strip on the right side headlamp is out.
I wonder if the law firm that had the leak case is aware of this. At least there was a case in the U.S.
Wait, so we can turn off the eyelashes entirely in that menu?Somewhere in this thread there was a request to be able to turn off the DRL's if one of the eylashes had failed.
A while ago Singh gave me a hand with VCDS and to save battery a button was added to the MMI menu to allow the DRL's to be turned OFF & ON easily while we were fiddling, module is 09-Cent. Elect. Byte 3, Bit 0 enabled.
More info in the attached images. Naturally before you get started, scan the vehicle and keep a copy, the MMI will need to be reset to load the button once the coding is saved. Best of luck, Chris

Hi saltshaker, the mod turns all elements of the DRL's off. CheersMine (2017) also joined this club. Right side parking light fails intermittently. I was hoping it's some loose connector but sadly found out here that it appears to be a common quality issue across touaregs.
Thank you @Treg-Syd-180-15 for providing this info! Does the VCDS turn off the DRL completely or just the underneath bar?

Hi trhere!I have the exact same issue just occurred in the last month Drivers side bottom LED stopped working..... I am going to purchase a scan gauge to test it..... I also would be happy to turn the bottom left LED off...this is still working.
I am now having issues as there has been hold up after hold up due to COVID. VW Aus has said they will cover 50% which still leaves me out of pocket about 2k! So annoyed about this! When I contacted them my car was still in extended warranty and therefore this was meant to be covered.100% that whole headlight requires replacement. I have harassed VW Australia about the issue as mine failed at only 35000Klm. I pointed them to this site to show that it is indeed a reasonably common issue but they are adamant that it is not a common issue. The dealer here wants $2250 + to fit a new headlight with no guarantee it will not happen again! Hassled VW Au with multiple complaints about the issue and they offered to replace it for $900. Not acceptable for a vehicle of this price and they came back with $650. Still have not resolved this issue and have my RH lower DRL out. I see so many 7P Touaregs with mostly the RH Lower DRL failed, a few with the LH and some with both failed but VW
Australia will not accept that this is an issue. I now have 85,000 Klm on the clock and still not resolution I am willing to accept. It is a case of mounting class action against them if only I could garner the support of our affected Touareg owners!
Hi, Our Touareg is a 2016 build , purchased Jan. 2017. Wolfsburg edition. 180kw TDI . Same thing, the passenger side underline part of the light is not working. failed at 53000 klm's.Could this issue be a manufacturing fault, that has been fixed on later model Touaregs?
Most of the people reporting issues look like theirs are either 2014 or 2015 models, with the one exception being 2016 (which could be an MY16 built in 2015).
Mine has a build of mid-Oct 2015 (ie MY16) and luckily does not have the failed LED issue that others have reported.
Can people with LED's who have the issue confirm the build dates of their Touaregs?
It would go great to determine if this is specific to vehicles that rolled off the production line during a specific period, that was resolved for later cars.
Mine too has now gone out 2015 execlineGoodnight all! Has anyone found a more cost effective fix for the drive side led line going out?
I used the VCDS to turn them off. However they (well the left) still comes on with the headlights. So even turning them off we still look stupid at night.Mine too has now gone out 2015 execline
I wonder if it would hurt to unplug the module on the working side? In USA I’m not required drl I can drive completely dark in the day except turn and brake lights.Heh, heh. So, probably the most economical solution. To wait until the second eyebrow gone. (turning DRL fully off is not an option in Russia, speed cameras has learnt how to detect cars with no DRL on, no seatbelt fasten, etc.)
