Does anyone know where to get the itty bitty little piece of chrome trim that fits into the knob of the Treg dash vents? VW says the chrome isn't sold without the whole vent and the whole vent is $169 plus whatever it takes to install it. This seems idiotic for a little piece of chrome which snaps in. I got my certified 06 2 weeks ago but only noticed this minor detail recently...of course the dealer says "tough, its a used car"...I have looked at wreckers but I do not know the part number for the vent assembly and I do not know whether VW/Audi uses these vents or vent knobs in other cars...

Thanks...

Parts interchange?

Ok..so no one had any new ideas...BUT...

Does one of you out there have a VW parts list that would tell me which VW models use the same vents as the Touareg? The Jetta (at least 06, maybe earlier) appears to have identical chrome accent pieces and there are lots and lots of wrecked Jettas but not so many wrecked Touaregs (actually, I can't find any online).

Incidentally...VW might want to reconsider not giving people tiny little parts like this just as a good business practice...the car should have had console and dash integrity done as part of the Certification checklist but apparently not. How difficult would it be to look into the parts bin at the factory and send me a chrome accent. I offered to pay for it and have it shipped but no, they want to sell me a $170 vent with install on my dime. I have a $350 Zero Halliburton briefcase...when the handle broke, ZH sent me a new one, Fed Ex, overnight, on their dime...and refused my offer to pay for it. Now I tell everyone who asks about the briefcase about the unreal warranty service I got. I must have sold half a dozen of the briefcases for them.

I won't be selling any Volkswagens with this story...and why should a little tiny chrome piece bother me so much? It doesn't, and I can wait to find one in a junkyard. VW however has been unhelpful and borderline rude about the inquery.

Little Part

I don't understnad why the dealer doesn't replace it under warranty. Tell you dealer that you are going to write a complaint to the area VW Rep. Sounds like it is a poorly built piece.

Replacement should be covered

I had numerous vents replaced on my 05 T-Reg after purchasing it used. I simply showed the dealer that the crome piece broke off and they covered it under warranty. I don't see why it would for one car and not the other. Perhaps with a little persistence they will cover it. Good luck!
