Wife still loves her 2012 Exec and I miss my 2007 Exec. Just fell into a deal on a 2009 TDI at 100K miles in immaculate condition. As I consider this purchase and what items I would spend proactive money on such as emission deletes and stage 2 reprogram I'm wondering if consideration for the HPFP is a bigger priority the more I read.

I see there are mentions of two type of pumps but I'm struggling to find info on their difference and what makes/models they came and that should be considered. Or is the consensus failure low enough on these (I read some forums state 0.05%) that replacing a 100K unit with a new one nets no additional guarantees.

I've been on Vw forms since the day the internets were invented and know how grouchy Vw experts get with over hashed content (ever been on salty dog vanagon forums?) but I'm just not finding the info on the exploding HPFP that had the definitive FYI info and reading 40 threads has netted me no more intelligent on the topic...at least for T2, if different then T3s.

Thx for pointing me in the right direction of good intel.

What is the dieselgate warranty status?

I have a 2010, so it should be the same generation and part. I'm running diesel additive year round, double-dosing in winter for anti-gel. I'm not worried about it grenading any more than any other part failure based on what I've read here and elsewhere. I'm at 146K miles and will be gathering parts soon for a delete and tune as my dieselgate runs out in October.

CP 4.2 pumps as a whole across all domestic manufacturers and the foreign ones that use the pump have a somewhat high failure rate. On the actual Touareg 3.0, it's fairly low. But when it goes it's a $16,000 repair and parts can be extremely difficult to get a hold of.

@jeffnhiscars ;)
I'm not sure what your intent was with posting the extract above with the pump revs, but you're more than likely just terrifying the OP with that (he's probably going to replace his HPFP as a PM thing now)...... might as well give him the whole Engineering Analysis to read up so that he understand just how few '09s were made, and what the reasons for the majority of the failures were.

I can't lay my hands on the full study w the failure rates/yr but that at least provides some insight as to what Bosch has done to try and mitigate the problem and when.

as far as terror I live w a 996 Porsche...my T2 does little to keep me awake in comparison :)

Not at all. I've made peace w the risks and just enjoy driving. The tdi still has 15mo of warranty and the Pcar has a fully rebuilt engine w invoices and a thumb drive full of pics.

sadly none of my cars need anything so I'm relegated to waxing and routine maintenance. I may even sell my e30 cabrio cause it just does t get to road time it deserves.

There's little to no need for anyone to stress over all these fears being spread all over the internet..... very few failures of very few things are a direct result of design flaws, etc...... but society loves being scared to death about everything these days!

I'm actually scare to post on this forum :p:ROFLMAO:😨

The cp 4.2 has been a huge piece of ****, globally, across every automotive manufacturer. Cummins tried it for I think 2 years, hated the failure rate and went right on back to the cp3.

You're delusional. It's been used on so many platforms that it's not even funny.... and you say stuff like POS Globally.
NA jumped on the POS bandwagon because we can't do proper maintenance or distribute high quality fuel... or not misfuel.

Yep, it has been. And there's been countless lawsuits and attempts at getting Bosch to fix it. Only takes 5 minutes of googling to see the hundred of pages of problems. Heck, how many manufacturers make 4.2 disaster prevention kits?!

FWIW - If you want to chase bigger power, a CP3 kit may be a requirement. I conveniently used this as a reason to convince myself to do it lol
