Not to Audi/VW but to Touareg. Had been looking for a replacement for my Yukon XL and was having lunch with a business associate that mentioned having owned a Touareg V8 which I wasn't aware existed. Did a little research and got intrigued. Found a 2004 on VWVortex that looked good but did a search for comparison. A dealer within a 100 miles had a low mileage 2008 V8 in excellent condition. Done deal. Love this thing - performs better than I imagined. Will post pix when I figure out how. Glad to have found this site.

Nice Vehicle. Solid engine with only a couple of quirks.

Keep the V8 FSI oil changes up and be sure to use the correct spec oil. This is your biggest thing. Stay on top of the oil!

Eventually (just like almost every other FSI or direct gas engine made) you will need to do a carbon clean on the intake.

Nickyt - will certainly keep an eye on the oil. Have a 4.2 in my Audi but it's non-FSI. Nice part of the country you live in.

Noobytoogy - thanks, I've read it a couple times already - some good info in there.

Just change the oil and make sure you use the correct spec oil. Most of us use Mobil 1 0W40 for the original (non FSI) V8 as it is the easiest oil to get locally.

No special oil problems with the FSI vs the non-FSI V8. The FSI guys have a little bit more of fuel dilution to deal with is the only real difference I know of. Your main concern should be the timing chains are running on a plastic-resin-crap guides that can shatter. They depend on oil to protect them.

So use the correct oil and always change the oil. If you run non spec oil or run the oil too long, you will end up doing damage to the engine.

At least oil for the gas engines is pretty easy. The TDI guys have to go thru oil purgatory and sacrifice live animals to figure out which oil to use and to procure it.

You missed out the fact the live animal sacrifices MUST be unicorns. Nothing else gives the right results.
