Hi -- yesterday morning I went out start my Touareg, normal morning routine and I received error messages for the following:
TPMS failure
Gear workshop failure
ABS, EPS lights remainded on
Brake Fault - stop vehicle.

There may have been others -- but those were enough to render my car inoperable. I, of course, tried to "reboot" -- turning off the car, removing the key and starting over. No luck. Couldn't even get the car to shift out of park to drive the short distance to the flatbed tow.

Service Manager and a tech came to my house and hooked up a diagnostic tool -- which could not communicate with any of the systems...they were going to try to override the gear shift. They finally had to open the center console and override the gear that way. We drove the car to the dealership - but it did not register any speed or other settings.

Update today is that they still don't know what the issue is definitely - but they have ordered an instrument cluster and will replace that. But that might not be the fix....

Anyone else experienced something like this? I've read other posts that seem to still allow the car to move and/or are limited to specific systems failing -- but this was all of them.

Thanks

Still Sad ...

This morning I called the dealership again and asked them to please run diagnostics on the battery -- that I was hearing many that many Touareg owners experience electrical issues similar to mine, and the issue is battery related. They checked the battery and reported that all was fine.

The instrument cluster arrived this afternoon and they installed it -- but no luck. Same issues occur. Brake service, EPS, ABS, TPMS, and gear workshop still fail -- and car must stay in neutral with the key in it.

They are contacting the VW techline, but no certainty as to when they will respond. If anyone has any ideas -- please let me know! At least the dealership is being responsive and is open to my suggestions based on what I've been able to research.

Thanks

Update!

Latest update -- dealer has diagnosed the issue: defective access relay. Basically the car went into lock-down mode -- as it would with an attempt at unauthorized starting. Part is on order and they believe this will fix all issues.

I'll post an update next week.

Thanks!

Brake Service Failure - among others....

Well, it's been 2000 miles since the first time this happened. And just as I had stopped being somewhat apprehensive every time I started him up -- it happened again....Brake Service Failure, Gear Workshop Fault, etc. This time there's a new icon in the MFI -- a key. That one's not even in the manual.

I called the dealership - within an hour they had dispatched their two top VW techs to come take my car (they have to open the center console and override the lock on the gear shift to put the car in neutral) and leave me with a Touareg loaner. And I was just saying I wanted to test drive an 05....

The tech this time didn't think it was necessarily the access control module (which is what they replaced the last time) but some power cord that they used to have to remove the engine to replace...I remain unconvinced of that since I have never seen any fluctuation in that (always at 14, or 12 as appears appropriate from the many posts I have read).

Anyone else encountered this? Heard of this cord to which the tech refers (runs from passenger side to driver side...)?

Thanks
