Well I did it, I've joined this fantastic family of Touareg owners!
G'day to all and thank you for having me!

We have recently had our first baby :D and my wife was hassling me about
getting a SUV/4x4 as our soon to be sold other car has me headbutting the windscreen with the baby seat behind so we(I) ended up purchasing a
2006 V6 TDI from a auction recently. I know what you are thinking, don't worry
I have thought the same of myself since.
Now I have a friend who works at this auction and was allowed to drive it before I decided to buy, and it drove great for 300,000 Kms, the running gear felt like it had only done half those Kms, transmission smooth changes and presented very well both in and out and didn't blow smoke with no lights on the dash, with full service history up to 270,000 Kms.
All was good for the first couple of days, I went to get all the filters and oil to service, after coming back from a half hour drive, I parked up and came back in about a hour to go out and the Exhaust Workshop light popped up while I was trying to start the Treg and it kicked over twice then stopped without firing, so I took the key out and tried again, same result..
I thought she might be tired and warm, I'll try her tomorrow Bow Down
Next morning, tried again, this time just kept turning over without firing, so I went over to the local servo workshop and asked the guy to help me out with getting the faults from the computer as I know FA about diesels and wasn't prepared to learn on this one
This is what I got:

P1018 Intake Manifold Runner (Bank 2) Lower limit not reached

P0401 EGR System Insufficient flow

P0321 Engine Speed Sensor (G28) Implausible signal

P1063 Fuel Pressure Regulation Control Range not reached

I then proceeded to do a few checks so off came the engine cover and I noticed some black soot/gunk under the passenger side of the cover and looked down to see around the intake manifold swirl flap area caked with the soot/gunk. I opened the fuel filter as I read online the fuel filter may be blocked and not enough fuel pressure, but the fuel filter canister was full when I changed the filter, then I removed the air flow sensor and cleaned it with air flow sensor spray and replaced the air filter, tried again but no go. Spoke with my diesel mechanic who is currently interstate and he told me to spray a little "start ya bastard" in the intake butterfly which made it fire for the first time but then it shut down within seconds, so I'm guessing it's diesel supply to the motor as it must be getting diesel to the filter for it to be full! Now thanks to Google and this site, I've read all I can to try to get to the bottom of it and I think it may be the high pressure fuel pump, but I'm only guessing :???:

Thought's anyone??

I have a mobile guy coming to check it out on Tuesday but would like some advice from the experts please Bow Down

Anyone in Greystanes NSW who knows about these and isn't going to try learn about diesels while looking at mine?

Thanks all and great site!

Typical forum Troll - not.

Great first post in some ways, distinct bummer in others.

I know Jack ****e about your problem but hopefully one of two folk from down under and elsewhere do!

The Faults

- P1018 Intake Manifold Runner (Bank 2) Lower limit not reached
common issue but will not affect the car in the short term and not your starting issue.

P0321 Engine Speed Sensor (G28 Implausible signal)
- Possibly a fault from your repeated cranking with out starting but may also be the sensor so fault needs to be cleared to see if returns immediately.

P0401 EGR System Insufficient flow
- An odd one but I have seen other VW vans fail to start with EGR issues but as above need to clear and see if it returns straight away.

P1063 Fuel Pressure Regulation Control Range not reached.
Another odd one and a bit worrying if it is not reaching correct pressure in fuel rail will definitely affect starting.

As for the expert advice
Don't let just any mobile repair guy have a go get someone who has worked on a Touareg before and I don't mean just changed the oil.

Drag

Thanks Drag, appreciate your help!
I think I may just pick up a sensor tomorrow and throw it in, I found a guide and it looks quite easy, and see how I go from there.
In regards to the mobile guys, haven't found one that's worked on one yet..
I'll get the faults cleared and update the status.

Thanks Melissa, Insurance only covers towing for 15kms, got it sent to a recommended diesel specialist, let's see what he can do, i'll post up what happens.

Here's the update, got it checked and it was the driver's side fuel pump.
Was running fine for 6 days and then it did exactly the same thing!!
Cranking but not firing, I am getting over this and it's turning me off VW.
Will update once I get it fixed AGAIN..
