Hello!
My 2004 VW V10 is " cheating" when driving in about 60-70 km per hour, and in drive. The French garage has no explanation, but It is irritating. I am not sure whether this is the gear box, or engine. Do any of you have the same problem?

What do you mean by "cheating?"

Sorry I cannot find the english word. It acts as if the carburator is partly out of gas, or not enough.

I think in the UK we'd say "hunting" or hesitating so there are very small jerks at a specific speed.

Do this sound right?

Jerking is probably the exact word, thank you. It is most significant on warm days,( warm engine and gearbox), and when not under pressure like hills e.t.c.

I agree with Mike N change the fuel filters. the V10 is SUPER sensitive to fuel filters...mine would only go about 20,000km between fuel filter replacement.
