Burning Oil?

Do any of you T3 Owner have a Treg that burns oil?
Whatever the amount is, does it in general?

Mine seems to burn about 1/2 - 3/4 quart after a few thousand miles (dont know exactly how many but lets say about 3000-4000 miles. It could be more)

When i had a 06 gti, that 2.0T turbo engine burned 1 quart/1000miles.
Now a 08 R32 with 3.2 NA engine, it barely burns any oil.

Is this normal to you guys?

Mine only uses oil when towing, otherwise never moves off the full tick mark in the service display.

It uses no more than 8 ounces (.25 qt) per 400 miles of towing a 3000 pound travel trailer. The most I have added between the 10K mile oil change interval is 2/3 quarts.

We only have about 6K on recently purchased 2011 VR6 Treg (52K on odometer currently) but when I did 1st oil change at 5K miles it was down about 1/2 quart. I do my own oil changes and have switched to Ravenol oil I get from Audi Parts - Vw Parts - Audi Parts Vw Parts Kit Company - Blauparts® that has performed very well in my previous 04 B5.5 4Mo wagon with 1.8T and 08 B6 sedan with 2.0 TSI engine.

It is not untypical to have up to a quart burn off over a 5K oil change, that is about what I was loosing on the 08 2.0 TSI until I switched to Ravenol VMO 5w40, on last change for B6 I lost less than 1/4 quart over 5K miles.

I have had, and still do, many VW's, and always ran VW spec full synthetic oil from either Castrol or Mobil 1. Now I have been using the Ravenol for about 18 months and it has proven to be a much better oil.

On the B6 (116K currently) when I removed the oil fill cap there was a dark film on the parts below, after 3 oil changes with the Ravenol it is now a clean oil film on those parts after 5K.

I don't think 1 quart over 5K is a problem per VW specifications, I just prefer it to be minimal if possible so I pay the premium for the better oil IMO.

--oil change at 1,200 miles (break in), the dash oil monitor was 1 tick down
--oil change at 5,000 miles, the dash oil monitor was 2 ticks down
--oil change at 10,000 miles, TBD

we do a lot of city driving, so i'm going to do oil changes every 5k rather than 10k. and i have the extended warranty because i hear diesels hate short trips.

We purchased our 2009 Touareg USED last spring with 54000 miles and had the oil changed first thing. 8000 miles later, I was thrill to see it uses such a small amount of oil.

Not sure if this is normal.
