brake light bulb replacement

so my MFI indicated that i needed to check my brake lights. i saw one light out so i started researching the bulb replacement. i contacted a local vw parts speciality shop which told me it just needed a basic 1156 bulb. so i went to the autopart store and found them, but noticed that it was not the correct bulb. it didnt match the existing bulb i took out. so i then went to sylvania website and looked up my treg for replacement bulbs and they said for the rear tail lights and stop lights the replacement bulbs are 7225.

i just wanted to make sure that the 7225 bulb is the correct one? can anyone confirm that.

thanks for your help.

Yes... that is the bulb I used to replace my tail light bulb that popped recently.
brake lights

For several months now I have been having struggeling with bulb repairs to my rear brakes only to come back to the same problem: my dash says " check rear brake lights ". anyone having same problem?
7225 is the correct one. I was in Spokane Washington recently when a bulb blew. Took the burnt one out and could'nt read the code. Went to a Schucks and they said it was a 7225. Popped a new one in and good to go.
i got the bulb and replaced the bad one. everything is good to go!!

thanks for your help.
I am having the same issue, any ways to start troubleshooting this issue? just start on one and start replacing them? it appears both are lit up but dont get brighter when i depress the brake pedal

all i did to troubleshoot it since i was by myself was wait till it was dusk then i took a piece of wood and pushed the brake pedal down than i moved the seat forward till it locked the board in between the brake pedal and seat. then i was able to go back and take a look and see the brake lights illuminated and which bulb, or bulbs were bad. obviously if i had someone there to assist me it would have been easier.

once you determine whcih bulb/bulbs are bad its pretty simple to remove and replace, refer to your owners manual from bulb replacement guide.
Thank you, when i checked them a few nights ago, they illumniated but they also did not get brighter when the brakes were depressed.

When the lights were turned on they didnt get brighter and then as well
when the lights are off they dont even turn on when you hit the brakes
The brake bulbs have two options,or so called double bulbs, one is only when you turn on the park lights and second when you push the brake, obviously the park lights is dead,so you have to replace the bulb..
Have you checked the brake light fuse?

Iceman yes i did this morning

both the brake light fuses are good, 15 on left and 14 on the right

Now the manual has the fuse listed at 20 and the right fuse box has a 15 in it in that slot. Should i change it
Touareg MNE

Thank you, both sides are out. Now will the lights on the back hatch light up brighter? or will it just be the two main taillights that are on either side of the hatch?

Iceman I did check the fuses and both are good- question, the manual rates them at 20amps and one of them has a 15 in it, should i change it?
Even though they use exactly the same bulb, only the outer ones light up (or get brighter when the lights are switched on) when you apply the brake. The ones on the rear gate only come on when the lights are switched on and are not linked to the brake lights.

This I found puzzling and I've been contemplating a little wiring change on mine to enable the inners as brake lights as well.
thank you, off to remove tail lights and check bulbs, any tips on that?
