Hello all you lovely people!
In advance, thank you for your help - you've all been fantastic with info on my Treg so very appreciate it!

I am preparing to do some maintenance to my Happy Wagon and I see I should replace the Brake Fluid every 2 years. What do I need to purchase/order? I typically go thru NAPA Auto Parts.

Also, what does this entail with the brake fluid change?

Thanks all!

Have you asked your local dealer for a price?

It is a 13 stage process.

Quite a few dealers do it at a price that makes DIY just not worth the bother.

I used Pentosin DOT 4 LV. Available online or locally.

Purchase a Motive Power Bleeder with the European adapter (Amazon).

I used a Mity Vac to suction out the reservoir. Fill the reservoir with new fluid, add fluid to the Motive, attach, pressurize.

Start at the calipers farthermost from the reservoir. Bleed.

You DO Not need to use the VCDS procedure unless you replace the ABS pump, or run the system dry.

Search YouTube, Vortex, etc. Lots of DIY vids.

Awesome info guys, thanks!

I wasn't going to do it myself but take it to my local guy that does my oil changes.

My nearest dealer is 3 hours away in Colorado Springs, I can call & see what they would charge.

In addition - what can you all tell me about a Transmission flush?
I understand that it is 'Sealed' and should not need maintenance. Is this a true statement? (Last I knew Transmissions needed a flush and new fluids every 100k miles or so?)

Thanks guys!

Got my '12 TDi done about 8 months ago and it was just around $180cdn at our dealership (which, by the way, has excellent service!).

According to VW, the transmission is sealed for life. I wouldn't want to go much over 50K miles before a fluid change, however. I had an Escape Hybrid that also had a "sealed for life" transmission and I changed the fluid out on that at 50K, too.

If you don't know when it was last serviced, I'd have it done when you next have the chance. I was quoted around $300-$400 USD at an independent shop. Of course, like all newer vehicles, it needs a particular fluid and you can't just refill it with Dexron III like in the "good old days"!

Any competent independent mechanic can do a brake fluid flush. No need for a VW expert for that job.

Yes, dealers will tell you it is sealed for life just like the diffs and transfer box.

But we know better!!

Change the ATF!

Change front and rear diff oil and the transfer box too - all every 60K miles max, more often if you tow a lot.
