Hey I just bought my first Touareg. It's a 2006 3.2 V6. I bought it with a lot of issues a few days ago. Transfer Case selector flashing, MFD has Low Range with Vehicle Symbol with decent control, 4wd? , and low brake pad warning lights. Had CEL, ABS, ESC lights. I was told that they just had come on and they had just replaced the battery, so I assumed it had to do with that. Had 3 major vacuum leaks, that fixed the misfiring. O2 sensor is bad, not to worried about that, easy fix. I am getting 3 codes that I need help with. "02053 control module for transfer case (j646)", "00788 steeing angle sensor (g88)", and "06420 pressure sensor for brake booster, implausible signal". The installed new brakes and calipers in the rear. It does need new pads up front, they are low but no noise yet. Brake pedal is very soft/mushy. I can press to the floor fairly easily. When I turn key to acc/on position is when tcase selector starts flashing. It drives fine, can go 70 @2600 rpm. It will not shift into low, so seems to be stuck in high. Also manual mode for gearshift does not work. And lights in cabin don't work, immediately blows fuse "12- drivers side panel". I've gone though and checked all the fuses on both side of car, under hood, and under the driver seat. All were good, except cabin light fuse. I looked for grounded out wires, bad crimps with no luck. Any ideas would be appreciated. I do have a schwaben vag scan tool. Oh battery seems to be draining pretty fast. Was ~13.2v last night now ~12.2v. When I turn the engine on it shows 14v on gauge and does charge the battery. I have had is since monday, and I run it every day because I'm working on it and don't want the battery to get low and don't have a trickle charger.
Ok, I did check the wiring/connection under the passanger seat, which I was assuming were the automatic gearbox control unit J217 and transfer box control unit J646. No obvious things wrong or visible water damage.
Get a proper VCDS or see if Schwaben can help dechipher the codes to something more specific.
With a proper tool, you can do way more output tests and read sensors, etc to help get you closer to the problem.....
Looks like there might be support available, and your tool may not be too shabby.....
Schwaben recommends purchasing a Bentley Manual to use with your Scan Tool.
Note: Scan Tool can only be updated on Microsoft PC's, not with Apple
You will need to register your scan tool in order to receive update notice's from Foxwell via E-mail
Instruction PDF is only a reference of how to maneuver thru screens. Actual screens will differ by model and manufacturer.
See 18545 VAG Scanner PDF.
Card reader is no longer needed for updates, now use USB cable.
To Register or for support from Foxwell the address is http://www.foxwelltech.com/support/ Make sure you use correct address
Looks like I need to get a Bentley manual. I know how to do all the scan functions. The most in depth it goes is those codes for transfer case module. The previous owner said the local shop he had it at thought it was the transfer case motor. I'm going to mess around more with my scan tool and see what I can find.
I got a little more information scanning. When I scanned the transmission it had 3 codes. 02039 position sensor in transfer case(g938), 02033 potentiometer 2 in transfer case(g482) and 02042 control circuit for motor in transfer case. I did live data but I'm not sure what the specific channels are. One channel shows 13.85v, sometimes jumping to 14.01v. Also when I turn the car, after it starts the boltmeter on the dash momentarily drops below 12v. Then you hear possibly the alternator kick on and it goes to ~14v.
