Hi All,

Has anyone does any brake upgrades or changes, as I feel my brakes need more stopping power. Currently on, just standard brake pads and discs all round. Not worn out or anything, But just feel when driving I need more or better stopping.:smile2:

Are you running the OEM Pagid/Brembo pads? If not, go back to the VW OEM Brembo pads and rotors. You don't have to get them from VW, but get the OEM parts. Only time this has ever been discussed is when using aftermarket brake parts.

Have you considered new tires? Tires have a major impact on your braking distance.

Have you considered worn brake fluid? Has the fluid been serviced/changed? Fluid is meant to be exchanged every two years regardless of mileage.

If you are running on old fluid, you'll have greater sponginess to the pedal feel. That's because there's water mixed into it. So you replace it and the pedal feel tightens up nicely.

Perhaps, this is your dilemma?

As above, the first brake fluid change from when the car is brand new is at 3 years, thereafter every 2. But any good garage can quickly test your brake fluid for water.

Also as above, tyre performance in all areas falls off the cliff after 50% tread wear.

And, again as above, I'd suggest you stick with OEM pads and discs. If you didn't buy the car new, you may not know what's on there now.

I know what you mean, and this is how I solved it......

I would also recommend have braided stainless steel brake hoses fitted to remove that horrible "spongy" feel they have...

Hi all, not sure as I didn't buy new, the tires are looking a little low so will need to replace the tires within afew months. But still enough tread and the tire pressures are all ok on all fours. I'm not sure what the pad are on it at the moment, I will have a quick look to see if I can see any Branding on the pads. As far as the brake fluid I don't think it's been changed the car doesn't feel spongy on the brakes. It just feels like it needs more bite to it.
