Hello guys I bought touareg 2016 i see on the engine cover was wrote castrol I assume castrol edge from the factory what do you advise stay with castrol edge or change it to mobil1 ? It’s all 5w40

If you've no problems wit the way the engine is running than I would say stick with what you've been using. As long as the oil you're using meets VW's spec for your particular engine you'll be OK.
Although I don't recall reading about VW writing Castrol on any engine covers.

Anything 507 spec but I've found the OEM German Castrol to be fantastic (because it is) and cheapest through the dealer.

Hello. I assume by your location that your 2016 Touareg does not have a diesel engine as they are unusual in the GCC countries. If that is true, then the best thing to do is check your owner's manual for the specified oil to use. VW has specifications and approvals that have certain numbers to indicate which spec to use for what engine. For example, My 2009 Touareg with the 3.6L V6 requires an oil with VW 504 00 spec. Examples of oils that meet that spec is Mobil1 ESP 5W-30. I use Amsoil European formula with that has the same spec number. VW 507 00 is usually for diesel engines so you have to check what your car requires.

Mind you, PRY4SNO'd TDI has been deleted. VW spec 507.00 is primarily spec'd for SCR/DPF purposes. With a deleted system, you can revert to a good synthetic like T6... at least anecdotally. I'm still building data myself on that, but my last analysis with Blackstone came back with comment "Nice results!" and that I can increase my OCI from 5k miles since the numbers were better than "universal averages" across the board. I'll go to ~7500 miles and see what happens.

I got that. I'm curious what UOA's look like without 507.00.

But really nothing (T6, Mobil 1 TDT etc.) is as good as it once was (TBN sucks compared to what it used to be say in 90's and early-mid 2000's), all have been neutered to a certain extent ... and that pisses me off cause some of us own tractors and other old diesel equipment where we want/need "good ole days" oil and it doesn't exist anymore.

So then you have to go find additives to add back in the crap that they took out cause we're a throw away society so Mfr.'s only make the current "flavor of the month."

All so your old stuff will finally break and to make you buy new stuff that won't last near as long (not even close ... my DT-466 will last forever! ... if I can find good oil for it).

If you like, I can get a snapshot of my last analysis. It only had ~5k on it, and was the first changeover from prior owner that said he had put Liqui-Moly Leichtlauf Top Tech in it.

I disagree. Vag motors still require VW-spec oil. There's no downsides and every upside to maintaining the proper high quality 507 oil
Understood and duly noted. I will continue to collect data and share here if there is interest.

When you understand the reasoning behind VW-spec oil you'll understand the criticality of running it. The 507 spec is just what's required to sustain 2,000* or whatever regeneration temp, but there's still additives required for the block, bearings, etc within the VW-SPEC oil

I used the 507 Castrol oil for as long as I could buy it from the dealer as they had a pretty good price (at least at my local dealers).
I used some Mobil and LiquiMolly, but this last time I found the Castrol 507 on Amazon for the first time in a long while.

I did use the LiquiMolly Ceratec additive when I bought the 2012 Touareg (when they were released from the VW buyback) mostly due to the reported timing chain wear and noise. I just use one can per change.

So far no measurable (on the service screen) oil usage with 10,000 mile oil changes. Also so far no rattles or other issues that I am aware of.

Has anyone else noticed that the OP has never responded on this thread... and more importantly has never said whether they have a TDI engine or a gasser? Yet here is everyone discussing/debating oil specs.

Thanks for the links, but none of those answered any of my basic questions. And recommending 30k km on an oil change has me even more skeptical of the quality of that information marketing.

I have yet to see anything that refutes using something like Delvac or T6 post delete because "x means y" kind of thing. I misplaced my Blackstone bottles when I did my last oil change, so we'll have to wait a bit to get some data. I did notice 5w40 T6 was a bit too thick when it gets to -40 or below, so I'll probably end up running a 507 oil in the heart of winter anyways.
