I recently bought a 2014 TDI Sport and brought it to my independent VW mechanic last Monday for a quick look. He siad all in all it was a solid vehicle and the only real issue was that the battery was almost toast. Not too bad of a report to get on my 11 year old Touareg.
I bought an OEM replacment battery from a local VW dealer and replaced it this afternoon. When I leaned the driver's seat back to get to the battery compartment I had a suspicion that the battery might be original. The condition of the carpet was pristine and all of the little connecting tabs to the carpet flap were still in place.
I pulled the old battery and I am 99.9% certain it was indeed the original battery to the vehicle, as 14/14 is stamped on the negative terminal. From what I understand about the German made car batteries is that it was built during the 14 week of 2014.
I have to say that I didn't think any car battery could last 11 years. I'm pretty amazed and if I can get half of that out of the new battery I will be happy. Anyway, just thought this was interesting.
