My dealer gave me the original spec sheet for my 06 V10 and it's says I should have a backup horn. This would be useful given I don't have a backup camera.

As I don't hear anything when I reverse could someone have been at it with the vag com? If so anyone know how to switch it back on. I have vcds and Ross tech lead.

The backup horn is an alarm horn for your anti-theft-system which also has a backup battery. So even if it gets disconnected from the rest of the electronics, the battery will keep it going. Hence the term backup horn. :)

Has nothing to do with backing up (reverse gear etc.)... ;)

If you really want a "back-up" horn, you can buy a bulb for one of your reversing lights that beeps [so you can really p*ss the neighbours off when you come home very late!].

May I advise against that? :) The lights in modern cars like the Touareg are constantly monitored, this does include the backup light. If you add another consumer to that circuit it is most likely that you will end up with fault codes or a constant bulp failure notice in your instruments.

LEDs fine - no warning.

There's only one way to find out - fit one!!
