Hey guys,

I'm thinking of planning a trip across Africa in the next 3-4 years. I'm thinking Switzerland or Egypt to Cape Town, depending on the security situation. I've done some overlanding with a company called Dragoman last year and thought it was great. Read some forums and blogs about people crossing Africa north-to-south, lots of people drive Land Cruisers or Defender (and to a lesser extent MB G-Wagens and Nissan Patrols) as they're easy to fix and there's lots of spares throughout the continent.

Does anyone have any experience crossing continents in a Touareg? Any thoughts about doing it in one of them? Curious to hear what you think.

Cheers!

If you haven't seen "Long Way Down" where Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman do a trip down Africa then watch it ASAP.

Africa is awesome but a guide and visa specialist for all the paperwork and politics is crucial. The corruption at borders can be scary. I have heard many horror stories of bribes due to incorrect paperwork and travellers without the correct info being taken for a ride. Do your homework and it will be epic. Leave it to chance and it will be a nightmare.

Awesome show, that along with my overland last year, served me as inspiration for the trip I'm planning!

Sorry for the thread necro but busy watching Long Way Down myself now. Also just bought a 2007 V6 Touareg. @VD-10 did you ever do your Africa trip in your Touareg?
