I have an 08 T2.I was driving yesterday after the blizzard we had in the north east. A lot of water pooled up in one of the roads I was driving. Like an Idiot I did not see how deep the water was (about 6 inches). I drove through it at about 45mph. It looked like the splash down at the log flume. Any way I noticed after that that the engine felt like it had 1/3 the power. I was not running rough so I don't think it was any misfires. after about 1/2 hr the engine light came on. I let the car sit for a few hrs. Once back it the same thing. I had to get home so I drove it as is. On the way back full power came back to the engine but the light remained on. I am hoping it dried out last night and it is good. but my luck probably not. What could have got wet that would cause this?

If you quench the O2 sensors they will stall out and trigger a light. Once the sensor reheats it will be back to normal. If it has stalled long enough it will set a Check Engine Light but it should clear after a few drive cycles. I also replied to your other thread.

sricca,

I am just guessing, but it may have been the coil packs. Now I don't have them on my TDI, nor do I have any experience with gas Tregs (just past experience over the years with wet conditions is what I am basing the guess on). I suspect they dried out as you say and power was restored. As to the engine light, if everything is put back to normal, I have seen engine lights go out after x number (5-10) re-starts. Now this was on my Jetta (when I had Glow Plug problems). It may also be that you will have to VAGCom it to reset the codes. I would VAGCom it to dump the faults out 1st to see what was indicated (this would probably give you the best source of info). If you are under warranty (and don't have a VACom or know anyone who does), take it in to the dealer.

I would be apt to think it is more an O2 sensor issue since 6" of water is not going to get to the coilpacks to make them wet. I blasted through more then that in a stream crossing at the Rally a couple of years ago and had no issue what so ever. Something deffinitely got wet that should not have, but unless you can scan it you won't really know other then guessing at it.

It looks ok today

This morning the car was running ok but engine light was on. After another stop start the light went away. Touareg is running good. Thanks for the helpful tips. I think it was the sensor. It seems it had some time to dry out now it is ok.
