Anyone else have the same problem? I have had 5 out of the last 6 4.2 Liter V8's and a handful of 3.2 Audi V6 engines with the same broken rods. Anyone else seen this?

Must be your driving Style? I have had no experience with this type of failure in AUDI or VW.

I wish it was, but really 5 of the last 6 4-2 V8's thru my shop have had the same broken servos, and a few 3-2 Audis also.

Things are so technical anymore. I like the good ole days of slapping on a aftermarket intake and a double pumper carb and with a little tuning get a tire squealing fun time.

Whoops... sorry everyone I slipped off there for a second...back to the tuning valves on a intake.

Swapping parts with your buddy in a 1/2 hour just to see if it works on his motor for the night. (cruisin).

Whoops...there I go again...I got to get some meds.

and then you realize you are pushin' 40, and life as you know it is over...

Thanks VW hack.
based on your post I looked at my engine (Touareg V8 2004) this morning …. and yes, the rods are broken too. I wouldn't have even thought about that to look there by myself. The question is if there are any failure messages stored in the ECU to diagnose it via scan tool.
I was thinking since months that my engine doesn't have that torque any more it used to have. Now I know that it wasn't a wrong impression.

I would recommend to everyone to give a look on their engines too

I am 2 steps ahead of the game.... I am having mine replaced under extended warranty, which is nice since they cost 367 each x 2

No fault codes, I personally wouldnt know if it has runabilaty issues or lag, since this pig only gets 3.4 in the city and 11 highway. I always chalked it up to the heavy 22's Having been lazy - cheap and neglecting my T-belt service and having a failed T-Stat at 88k, is when I noticed them. I contacted Paul at Gruven Parts to make a set of either stainless, or billett as a cheaper upgrade

What happens if these break?
The valves open and close certain flaps inside the intake manifold, which is that big piece on top of your V8 engine.
Depending on the position of these flaps, the air stream inside the manifold is influenced which results in improved torque/power at specific rpm ranges.

So if the rods are broken, the flaps are not activated. The car is still driveable without risk, but without the torque/power it was specified.
